Green Bible Devotional Curriculum

The beginning of spring seemed like the perfect time to start using the Green Bible Devotional (GBD) as a curriculum guide for my Jr. Church lessons.  As we were shaking off the cold of winter and welcoming the flowering plants in spring, our class was completing lessons on the Good Samaritan.  I've owned a copy of the GBD for years and enjoy meditating on the highlighted verses displaying God's grace, mercy, and sovereignty in nature.  I was excited for the kids to learn not only about what we see in nature that they can use to point their friends and family to God but also how they can worship God by taking care of the planet.

Granted some topics may, on the surface, seem to be beyond the comprehension of my kindergartners: global justice, but I look forward to the challenge of introducing these complex truths to them and helping set this foundation.  In addition to studying advanced concepts, it will be a challenge to make it exciting to talk about 'air' 11 weeks in a row.  I have the advantage of having pretty creative kids in the group right now, and it is always fun to see how they take the lessons and apply them to their lives.

I'm not sure how many of the over 1,000 verses in the devotional I'll cover or what I'll face when the new kindergartners promote up in two months and aren't able to read or write, but it should be fun.  I will be posting my lesson plans, PowerPoints, and notes in the future with comments on what worked and what did not as well as interesting articles I come across about the fun, frustrating (at times), and craziness of teaching elementary-age kids about the Bible.
